Miyota Co., Ltd. was established in 1959 as a subsidiary of Citizen Watch Company in the town of Miyota (now part of Saku City), Nagano Prefecture, Japan. The company began as a movement manufacturer to support Citizen's growing watch production. Throughout the 1960s and 70s, Miyota expanded its capabilities in both quartz and mechanical movements. The introduction of the 8215 automatic in the 1980s marked a turning point—this affordable, reliable caliber became the backbone of countless microbrand watches worldwide. In 2009, Miyota launched the premium 9000 series with higher beat rates and thinner profiles, directly competing with Swiss movements at a fraction of the cost. Today, Miyota supplies movements to hundreds of watch brands globally and remains one of the most important third-party movement suppliers in the industry.
